CAPE ELIZABETH -- Susan Turmelle, 54, of Starboard Drive, Cape Elizabeth, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at her home.
Susan was born in Dover, N.H., on June 21, 1955, the daughter of Conrad and Germaine Turmelle. Susan was raised in the city of Dover, N.H., and attended local Dover schools. She graduated from Berwick Academy in South Berwick. She worked as a chef, mostly in her adopted state.

WELLS -- William (Bill) Wernli Hardy, of Merriland Ridge, Wells, died peacefully at Durgin Pines in Kittery on Monday evening, Nov. 2, 2009, where he had been a resident for the past several months. He was the son of John E. Hardy and Lura Wernli Hardy of Eliot.
Bill was born on Feb. 25, 1915, in Lowell, Mass. He was employed at the South Quincy, Mass. Navy Yard when he married Helen Lord of North Berwick, having met her at a dance at the Bauneg Beg Grange Hall in that town.

WESTBROOK -- Carmella F. Bougie, 77, of Cole Street, Westbrook, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at a Portland hospital.
She was born in Westbrook, the daughter of Charles J. and Sabine M. Gouzie Ledoux. She lived in the house she was born in her entire life, and attended Westbrook schools.
Carmella was a communicant of St. Hyacinth Church and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne. She enjoyed crocheting and crafting and loved swimming and spending time at the family cottages on Watchic and Sebago Lakes and the pool behind the house.

SCARBOROUGH -- Earl Ramsay, 83, of Scarborough and Great Diamond Island, died peacefully on Nov. 4, 2009, after a brief illness.
He was born July 8, 1926, in Winslow, the son of Embert and Lila Ramsay. He graduated from Winslow High School. After completing one year at Colby College, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during WWII. After the war, he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of Maine at Orono.

He was born Oct. 20, 1933, the first son of C. Richard and Rachel (Norton) Luce of Farmington. He graduated from Kents Hill School and Wentworth Institute, Boston. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. in the Philippines.
Norton married Jean Harris Woodbury of Portland on June 28, 1958, and lived in Farmington.

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Paul W. Vanier passed away peacefully at his home in Tucson, Ariz., on Nov. 3, 2009, at the age of 71.
He was born in Edmundston, N.B. Canada on July 20, 1938, to Emile and Irene (McClusky) Vanier. He graduated from Madawaska High School as the valedictorian of the class of 1956. He went on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maine with a focus on pulp and paper technology. From there he served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.

BOOTHBAY HARBOR -- Robert P. Wheeler Jr., 78, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.
He was born Sept. 8, 1931, in Lewiston, the son of Robert P. Wheeler, Sr. and Alice LaFleur Wheeler. He grew up in Auburn graduating from Edward Little High School, the class of 1949. He continued his education graduating from the University of Maine at Orono with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1953.
He signed for the draft and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

SANFORD -- Shirley M. Pope, 89, a lifelong resident of Sanford, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at the H. D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.
Born in Sanford on March 28, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Ernest I. and Eva M. (Cram) Houston. She graduated from Sanford High School in 1938. She retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where she had been employed as a data processing supervisor.
She was one of the founders of the Shaker Valley Square Dance Club in Alfred and a former officer of the Square Dance Foundation of New England.

She was born in Bridgton on July 6, 1919, the daughter of Irving E. And Hattie (Rand) Mabry MD, attended local schools and graduated from Bridgton High School. She had been a housewife most of her life and had worked in the oil business with her husband Ralph Foster for 25 years.
Betty is survived by one brother, Burton Mabry of Bridgton; two nephews, Peter Morris of Waterville and John Morris of Bridgton and Scotland, and one niece Jane Morris of Acton, Mass.
